Shenna(Suhyeon Kim)- Talking colour

<Reflective statement>
Observing my surroundings, I was able to meet a lot of wonderful things. I could see the wide nature in the park, gorgeous buildings and stores. Also, at night, I could see a shining night view. Then I began to think about how to paint and transform these things into patterns.
I have mainly used pencils to draw realistic pictures with shading and details. So this time, I wanted to develop the ability to simplify and pattern paintings with more diverse materials. Therefore, I tried to use materials such as water colour, oil pastel, acrylic, marker pens and so on.
For me, who usually draws in detail, the first task of colour made me focus on the colours and overall shape. The oil pastel was so dull that it was difficult to use, but I could also feel its own rough charm. When I use acrylic with the technique I tried, I can feel both rich colours and textures. I thought I could use this technique to devise and develop various knit samples in the future.
During the second task of pattern, I also used phone functions to enlarge and photoshop program to repeat them. Using these technique makes me more interesting to make patterns.
I was able to escape the obsession with details and draw freely with a comfortable mind. Also, by using many materials, I learned what materials fit me well and I was able to develop my technique by trying the same material in various ways. Most of all, I am proud that I was able to improve my confidence in drawing and creating patterns.

I like how she experiences her drawing. As you can see, she used a lot of different mediums to explore her drawings. Firstly, I can see how she draws extremely detailed drawings. When I see her drawings, those drawings bring me to that moment. Secondly, I like how she uses bold color in her paintings, it makes paintings become vivid. Although she mainly uses a pencil to draw, paintings also present a vivid mood to me. The most important is she combines the pencil and other mediums very well such as the sixth painting. She uses watercolor and colored pencils to draw but also used pencil drawing to draw the people in the background and the main character. When she uses a pencil to draw created shadows. It makes the painting are alive. I can feel she is feeling the texture of each medium. She already thinks of the drawing texture connection with samples. She uses photoshop to play with the pattern. It is a good way to get more inspiration. she is not only played with the pattern but also uses the strong brushstroke to draw it. It creates a strong feeling in the painting. Moreover, I can tell the pattern also connect with the sample. It is a strong connection with the samples and also gives her inspiration. She draws these paintings with freedom, I can feel it. When I see her painting, it makes me feel comfortable and free. It is good to have a peer review because I can learn a lot from her.
